First Visit

First Visit

Preparing for your first periodontist visit in Poway helps ensure your appointment is as smooth and informative as possible. Whether you have been referred by your general dentist or scheduled an appointment directly, your visit is designed to evaluate your periodontal health, discuss your concerns, and complete a comprehensive examination.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

To help us prepare for your visit, please bring the following information with you:

  • Any referral information and available dental X-rays from your referring dentist, if applicable.
  • A current list of all medications you are taking. Prior to your appointment, you will also get a secure link to complete your medical history forms online.
  • Your dental insurance card and any relevant insurance information, if applicable.

Insurance Information

Tooth Rock Periodontics is a fee-for-service practice and is not in-network with dental insurance providers. As a courtesy, our team will submit insurance claims on your behalf and help facilitate reimbursement directly to you whenever applicable.

Please Note: Patients under 18 must attend their consultation with a parent or legal guardian.

Before Your Appointment

Please notify our office of any medical conditions or concerns before your appointment by completing the health history form as thoroughly as possible. Examples include artificial heart valves or joints, heart murmurs requiring premedication, severe diabetes, hypertension, or any other significant medical condition that may affect your care.

Many systemic health conditions, including diabetes and heart disease, are associated with periodontal health, making a comprehensive medical history an important part of your periodontal evaluation and treatment planning.

Your Initial Periodontal Consultation

During your initial periodontal consultation in Poway, your periodontist will review your medical and dental background and conduct a thorough periodontal evaluation.

Your evaluation may include an assessment of:

  • Bone loss
  • Loose or mobile teeth
  • Bite alignment
  • Oral cancer screening
  • TMJ health
  • Signs of periodontal disease and other conditions affecting your oral health

Additional dental X-rays may be recommended when clinically appropriate to help evaluate bone levels and the condition of your teeth.

After Your Examination

After your examination, your periodontist will review the findings with you and discuss any recommendations or suggestions based on your individual needs. These may include personalized oral hygiene instructions, and when appropriate, new oral hygiene aids or brushes may be provided to help support your periodontal health at home.
